Mandala Tattoo Meaning and Some Astonishing Mandala Tattoo Designs

Mandala Tattoo Meaning

The ancient art of mandala traces its roots all the way back to India. And since then it has extended throughout the world, and for good reason. These round designs are a visual representation of the universe. Their round shapes represent the fact that life has no end and is ever continuing around and around. Each mandala is unique and has a particular pattern symbolising the unity and peace in life.

These patterns are traditionally used in enhancing meditation and understanding the deeper side to life. They are especially prevalent in Hinduism and Buddhism. Monks in Tibet will create these intricate designs by hand and when finished, simply sweep them away. Many meditation centres will have them on walls to assist members take their meditation to a new level.

It’s not surprising that these beautiful and meaningful art pieces have become popular tattoos. If you are looking for a tattoo with a little more depth to it then seriously consider a mandala tattoo. These mandala tattoos often carry an otherworldly and even religious theme and because of this are often sported by people who, if not deeply religious, are more in tune with the more mystical side of life.

Headscarf or Burka: Muslim headwear for women

Why do muslim women wear hijab?

The Muslim headscarf has been a matter of quite a bit of controversy in the last few years. Many claim that it degrading towards women and is designed only to oppress them. Multiple countries have even banned the face covering for security reasons. But despite the outcry against it, what do the women of Islam have to say?

Many women in free countries who wear a head covering say they choose to do it out of their own free will. The Quran states that woman should wear the covering to maintain respectability and obey God. Many Muslim women don the headscarf saying it allows them to prove their obedience to God and even spares them the trials that a fashionable world forces on women.

But there are actually quite a few different kinds and degrees of head coverings.

The word hijab itself, simply means ‘veil’ in Arabic. It can stand for any type of head covering, which is usually some type of scarf. Most hijabs over quite a bit of variety as they can be made with any number of materials, colours, and patterns.
muslim headscarfMost common are the simple scarfs wrapped around the head such as the shayla. This is a long length of fabric that is only pinned to ensure it stays on. The al-amira is a little more designed as it comes in two pieces; a very snug ‘cap’ and a tube type scarf that slips over it. For a little more coverage, there is the khimar which, while similar to the shayla, covers all the way down to the waist. The chador takes it one step further covering all the way to the ground.muslim headscarf

Once you get to the niqab the face starts to get covered. This full body veil also covers the bottom of the face, leaving only the eyes to be seen, though you can add a separate eye veil as well. Then lastly, there is the infamous burka. This full face and body veil allows only a mesh eye cover for the woman to see out of.

Hairy Armpits: Women’s Trend On Instagram

What is more natural than armpit hair?  Not much to be honest.  But society has long made armpit hair on women taboo.  But now women are pushing against such beauty norms.  A trend has flared up on social media of women sporting underarm hair.  Some women take it a step further by dyeing the hair to draw extra attention.

Like most modern beauty trends, the shaved clean look developed from a marketing campaign.  As women fought for more freedom around the 20’s, their dress code reflected it.  With the evolution of the sleeveless dress (as well as more risqué dance moves), the razor companies were sure to imply that women wouldn’t go out without taking care of their unsightly hair.  Since then it’s been the standard.

The unshaven trend has even taken off with some celebrities as well.  Lady Gaga, always the first to push the envelope, sported dyed blue underarms to match her hair during the 2011 Much Music Awards.

But she wasn’t the first.  All the way back in 1999, Julia Roberts showed up to a London premiere proudly displaying her natural look.

The notable Ben Hopper, a photographer from London has started a collection of photos entitled “Natural Beauty”.  Every picture displays a natural woman proving that beauty is more than follicle deep.

Brazilian graphic designer Carol Rossetti’s uses her artistic talent to raise awareness of the prejudices and stereotypes towards women all over the world.

The “Women” project came out of a desire to counteract the world’s need to control women’s bodies, identities and behaviours.

This control is such a deep part of our culture that we hardly ever realize how cruel it is and how it restricts our personal choices,” Rossetti stated on her website.
